On a data sharing cell phone plan, one line could use 12 GB of data, the second line could use 6 GB, and the third line could use 2 GB.
What does AT&T mean when it says “shared data”?
AT&T provides two separate Mobile Share plans: Unlimited Talk and Text and Mobile Share with Data. Mobile Share with Unlimited Call & Textincludes your choice of data packages to share across all of your account’s devices, as well as unlimited domestic talk, text, and photo messaging for your phones. On compatible devices, all Mobile Share subscriptions provide mobile hotspot and tethering capabilities.
AT&T Mobile Share- Data plans provide you the option of choosing a data package to share across all of your internet devices, including tablets, gaming devices, laptops, netbooks, and more.
On compatible devices, both Mobile Share plan types provide mobile hotspot and tethering capabilities.
- The more you share, the more money you save. In addition to unlimited domestic call and text for your phones, with Mobile Share with Unlimited Talk & Text, the larger the data bucket you choose, the less you pay per gigabyte and the less you pay for each smartphone added to the shared plan. When compared to individual data plan packages, choosing a data plan to share across your internet devices with Mobile Share – Data is a more cost-effective method to pay for data.
- Flexibility – You create your own plan based on your devices and data usage. Make the most of your data by sharing it between devices and utilizing any unused data.
- Simplicity – Keeping track of your data has never been simpler. You won’t have to keep track of several data plans if you consolidate your data into one shared plan.
Our Mobile Share plans work in the same way as our other programs. A two-year contract is required if you purchase a subsidized smartphone. It does not extend your contract if you decide to change your data package at any time, or if you’re an existing user who wants to move to Mobile Share.
All devices must be on the same account with our Mobile Share with Unlimited Talk & Text services. Smartphones are not eligible for Mobile Share – Data plans.
Mobile Share with Unlimited Speak & Text allows you to share up to ten devices per group with unlimited domestic talk and text and your choice of data: smartphones, basic/quick messaging phones, tablets, gaming devices, USB modems, netbooks, laptops, or mobile hotspots. Per account, you can have many Mobile Share groups.
Mobile Share – Share up to ten internet-only devices per group, such as tablets, gaming devices, USB modems, netbooks, laptops, or mobile hotspots. Per account, you can have many Mobile Share groups. All devices must be on the same account with our Mobile Share – Data plans.
You don’t have to switch to a Mobile Share plan if you already have one. Only Mobile Share with Unlimited Call & Text plans allow you to share unlimited talk, text, and data across many devices, so if you want to share data across several devices, you’ll need to switch to a Mobile Share with Unlimited Talk & Text plan.
Additional data costs $20 per 300MB on 300MB plans and $15 every 1GB on larger plans, but you’ll always know when you’re approaching your data plan limits thanks to AT&T’s free courtesy alerts.
No. You can only share data between devices if you have a Mobile Share plan. If you switch from an unlimited data plan to a Mobile Share plan, you will not be able to go back to your previous plan.
Unlimited Talk & Text is offered only with Mobile Share with Unlimited Talk & Text, and it applies to all integrated devices (smartphone, QMP, and basic phones). It does not apply to devices that are merely capable of receiving data. Mobile Share-Data plans do not apply to smartphones.
I signed a two-year contract for a tablet. Is it possible to include my tablet in a Mobile Share plan?
Tablets are eligible for a Mobile Share subscription. Your existing contract will not be affected if you acquire a tablet for a discounted two-year commitment price and then switch to a Mobile Share plan. You must subscribe to either the $35/3GB or $50/5GB plan for the duration of your two-year agreement or pay the corresponding Early Termination Fee if you move a discounted tablet from a Mobile Share Plan during the time of your two-year agreement.
Select the plan that is best for you. To estimate data usage across all of your devices, use the Mobile Share Planner.
Do you need assistance calculating how much data you can use on a daily or monthly basis? See our Data Usage Calculator for more information.
Tethering is possible on some cellphones, but Mobile Hotspot is not. Tethering (a one-to-one device connection through a linked cable) is available on nearly all cellphones, however not all are Mobile Hotspot capable (a 1-to-many device connection via a wireless Wi-Fi access point).
Customers who use AT&T Account Manager (ACM) on a netbook or modem will be able to receive and send text messages using the ACM interface (ACM on Tablets allows for receiving but not sending text messages). This is not the same as the Mobile Share Unlimited Text. Customers are charged for sending and receiving text messages (however AT&T texts are free and do not incur text messaging charges).
Yes. Any member of your Mobile Share plan can have Data Usage disabled or enabled. For the remainder of your monthly cycle, disabling use will prevent you from using your wireless data except over Wi-Fi networks. At the start of your next paying cycle, your Mobile Share service will be reactivated.
Go to the My Wireless Usage page to disable or enable data usage. Select the “Turn off (on) this member’s data usage” link under the web section.
What’s the difference between shared data and data that’s available indefinitely?
Individual, per-line data is unlimited.
Each line on the unlimited plus plan gets 10 gigabytes of full-speed hotspot use before being throttled for the rest of the bill month and up to 22 gigabytes of data before being reprioritized (not throttled), which means it may encounter slowdown if the network is busy.
There is no limit on the amount of data that can be sent.
There is no speed limit in place.
Shared data refers to a phone, or many devices, having a limited amount of data to draw from throughout the billing period (for example, I have 20 gigabytes and 5 devices).
The data is throttled to 128kbps for the remainder of the bill cycle once the pool is depleted (current plan offer).
Alternatively, on earlier plans, more data is available for a charge per gigabyte.
