How To Transfer Utilities To Tenant Singapore?

In Singapore, how do I turn on my gas?

You can open a utilities account before relocating to your new place by going to:

Use MyInfo/MyInfo Biz to eliminate the requirement to send an application form, NRIC, and Letter of Authorisation for faster processing and ease of application (for companies).

Turn-on appointments are not required for HDB Build-To-Order (BTO) flats because the electrical and water supplies are turned on prior to your move.

The account holder or a representative must be present during the turn-on appointment for HDB resale flats and all other residential properties. Before the supply can be switched on, our technicians must gain access to your premises to undertake a safety inspection.

City Energy is in charge of turning on the gas supply. Call 1800 555 1661 to schedule an appointment after obtaining confirmation of your account opening.

Important: Even if you intend to purchase power from a retailer, you must first register an account with SP Utilities.

What is the procedure for opening an electrical account in Singapore?

We must first register an SP Utilities Account for our new property in Singapore before we can move in. This must be completed in order for your home to have access to water, electricity, and natural gas.

Because each account is associated with a unique name and address, you must create a new account for each residence that you intend to occupy, even if you already have an SP utility account. It is not possible to transfer your utility account. As a result, you won’t be able to simply move it from your old home to your new one.

If you’re moving out of your present home and into a new one, for example, you’ll need to close your current utilities account and start a new one at your new home. You can alternatively open a new utilities account with SP first, and then close your previous utilities account when you no longer need it, depending on your living situation.

You must open an SP Utilities Account regardless of whether you use an Open Electricity Market (OEM) provider or purchase electricity from SP. This is due to the fact that SP Utilities continues to furnish and bill for water and gas.

You can register for an account online using a desktop/laptop computer or the SP Utilities App. For the purposes of this essay, we’ll walk you through the experience if you’re using a desktop or laptop.

Step 2: Provide home address details

It will immediately indicate whether your new home address is covered by City Gas when you provide the address for your new home. For example, it automatically informs me that City Gas is not available at my new location, which means I’ll have to find other ways to cook, such as utilizing an induction stove or obtaining gas cylinders from Union Gas.

Even if you have an electricity plan with an OEM provider at your current location, keep this in mind. You should still contact SP Utilities first to get your energy turned on.

Step 3: Provide personal details (via Singpass if possible)

You will be required to supply personal information. Choose Myinfo with Singpass to access information for convenience. That was the choice we made. Most of the personal information requested in Myinfo should already be filled in, making the process much easier.

Step 4: Choose an appointment date and time to open your SP Utilities account

To open your utilities account, you’ll need to pick a day and time. You may be required to attend the appointment at your location. Instead of receiving a printed statement, you can choose to receive a bill summary through email.

How can I change the name on my utility invoices in Singapore?

Fortunately, moving your utilities isn’t difficult and can be done from the comfort of your own home.

If you work for SP Services,

When renting, how do you handle utility bills?

For the first time, learn how to connect gas and electricity.

  • Find out who provides you with your energy.
  • Find the meters for your gas and electricity.
  • Take a reading on the meter.
  • Locate the fuse box as well as the trip switch.
  • Find out what your meter number is.
  • Make contact with your new energy provider.
  • Find out what tariff you’re on and how to change it.
  • Look for a better energy bargain by shopping around.

When I’m moving, how can I turn off the electricity?

When closing an account with your electricity or natural gas company, you should give at least five (5) business days’ notice, but we recommend giving roughly one month’s notice. You can either phone your utility to request that service be turned off and your account be closed, or you can submit the request online (if you already have an online account).

To close your account, you’ll need to supply the following information:

  • Your account number for utility services
  • The date on which you will be relocating
  • Your final bill’s forwarding address
  • For verification purposes, you may be requested for your social security number.

Final Meter Reading

Depending on your utility company, a representative may be dispatched to take a final meter reading in order to guarantee that your final bill is accurate. If you have a smart meter, though, this isn’t necessary.

Security Deposit

If you paid a security deposit for your electricity or gas service, it will be returned to you on your most recent payment (if it hasn’t already). Your security deposit will usually be applied to your final bill by most utilities. Any remaining security deposit will be sent to you at your forwarding address.

Service With an Alternate Supplier

If you get your electricity or natural gas from a different provider, you should let them know about your impending move about a month ahead of time. They should be able to move your account to your new address in most circumstances. If the provider does not provide service at your new residence, you should be allowed to cancel your plan without penalty or price. Check your plan’s terms and conditions for more information, since they may demand particular papers as proof of your relocation.

To end an account with a different supplier, call their customer care number or go to their website and supply them with the following information:

  • Account number for your customers
  • The date of your relocation
  • Your e-mail forwarded address

In Singapore, how do I switch my electrical provider?

For more information on the price plan you’re interested in, contact your chosen retailer. Before joining up, request a price plan Fact Sheet as well as a Consumer Advisory that covers the key points to be aware of.

Contractual provisions such as contract duration, payment terms, security deposit, early termination fees, and auto-renewal agreements should all be carefully examined.

Inquire about any terms and limitations that may apply to bundled services or products.

Read your contract carefully, and if you have any questions, contact your shop to explain the terms and conditions.

Step 3: Sign Up

To make the transition, you’ll need your most recent meter reading. Your retailer will instruct you on how to submit your meter reading and when to do so. Alternatively, you can have SP Group estimate it for you.

Remember to read the consumer advisory for residential consumers before signing up.

After your store notifies SP Group of the transition, your contract might begin as soon as 5 business days afterwards.

GIRO

A GIRO payment arrangement can be set up in a few different ways:

  • Using your internet banking account: Simply fill in the appropriate fields, such as the billing organization to which the payment should be made (i.e. SP Services) and the account from which the payment should be made.
  • Customers with DBS/POSB ATM cards can use AXS machines.
  • By mail: Fill out this GIRO form and mail it to SP Services.
  • Manulife Tower (8 Cross St, #02-01/03, Singapore 048424) or HDB Hub (480 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, #02-08, Singapore 310480) are SP Group Customer Service Centers.

Also, don’t say never: All existing and new residential customers paying via GIRO who have made a minimum of three successful GIRO deductions between 15 April 2019 and 31 December 2019 are automatically entered into a lucky draw with prizes worth $32,000 (!!!).

Credit card

This is the second most popular form of paying for your utilities, after GIRO. When you pay with a credit card, you can potentially earn bonus miles or money.

iBanking

Select the billing organization (i.e. SP Services) from your online banking account, enter your bill reference number, and pay the amount shown.

This is the payment screen for DBS/POSB account holders, for example:

AXS Machine

Bring your utility bill statement to any AXS machine in Singapore and scan the QR code or barcode to pay with your card or NETS.

Tip: There is a 1% late payment fee, so if you’re paying by non-automated means, set up a reminder of some form so it doesn’t slip your mind!

Terminate or transfer your account

If you’re a tenant, cancel your Utilities Account by filling out this form and either emailing or posting it to SP Services after your lease expires or when you sell your home.

If your account is on GIRO, after the last charges have been deducted, the GIRO arrangement will be cancelled.

Utility accounts are not transferable.

If you’re a landlord shifting utility bill responsibilities to a new renter, for example, you’ll need to close your account and have your tenant open a new one.

When you move, what happens to your utilities?

When you move, you must notify your gas, electricity, and water providers that you will be leaving your current residence. Following that, you’ll receive a final bill based on the final meter readings (remember to give your suppliers your new address so they can send this out).

Is it possible for me to have two SP Services accounts?

You can do so by visiting the SP Services website or downloading the SP Utilities app, or by visiting one of the two SP Services customer service centers in person.
