- Examine the weather conditions outside: Heavy wind, a storm, or snow can all cause signal interference. After the inclement weather passes, the signal may reappear.
- Check for any building work or anything that could be blocking the signal to the satellite dish.
Please follow the procedures below if it does not appear to be a signal or a weather issue.
Why is my television reporting that there is no satellite signal?
If you haven’t already, check that your TV is set to the correct Source or Input. If it isn’t, try setting it to AV, TV, Digital TV, or DTV.
If your “No Signal” notice isn’t triggered by selecting the wrong Source or Input, it’s most likely due to a set-up or antenna issue.
The majority of the time, pixelating visuals (“blocks on the screen”) or the occasional “No Signal” warning are signs of reception problems.
Network Status
The network undergoes important maintenance from time to time, which may have a brief impact on signal levels. However, these are normally scheduled between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. to minimize interfering with your watching, and you can obtain information about all projects that may affect the network status here (information as provided by the Transmission Providers).
Common Causes of Reception Issues
Reception issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
Antenna malfunction, for example:
- The UHF aerial is misaligned or obstructed.
- The satellite dish is obscured or poorly positioned.
- Due to repeated exposure to the elements, sections of the antenna have corroded;
For example, a problem with the cabling or connections:
sloppy connections between the antenna cable and the television;
Misuse or defect of the product:
- You might want to check with the maker of your gadget to see if it has the most recent firmware upgrades, for example.
First try a “Cold Retune”…
- At the wall, turn off your smartphone (this is the receiver, recorder or TV that your antenna cables is connected to)
- Reconnect all wires at the rear of the TV or box, making sure they are all securely attached (you don’t want any loose cables causing signal loss), and if you have a signal booster installed, remove it and reconnect the antenna cable directly into your receiver, recorder, or TV.
- Allow for some cooling time for any overheated electronics.
- Turn on your television and receiver/recorder.
- Re-calibrate your smartphone.
- Tuning options can be found in the Menu or Settings menus. Please refer to your device’s manual for instructions, or click here for tips.
Contacting a local installation in your region who can provide on-site diagnostic and repair is our recommended. You can find a local installer using our free online directory. It’s best to get a couple quotes by calling around.
How can I reclaim my satellite signal?
Check that all of the cords between your TV and satellite dish are securely attached. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cables is a common solution. Check that none of them are damaged or wet while you’re doing it. Remove your receiver from the power source and set it aside for 10 minutes.
What can I do to improve the signal from my satellite dish?
Loosen the Nuts on the Satellite Dish So, to acquire a better satellite signal, loosen the nuts that connect the dish and the support pole. Next, realign the dish; the quickest way to accomplish this is to have someone watch TV while directing you to the optimal signal angle.
What’s the deal with my TV not picking up channels?
One of the most common reasons why TVs are unable to identify channels is that their cable boxes are malfunctioning. Restarting your cable box may resolve any problems that are preventing it from functioning properly.
But how can you reactivate the cable box on your TV? You’ll find all the directions you’ll need right here.
- Disconnect the cable box’s power cord. Alternatively, disconnect the power connection from the primary power source.
- Allow 20 seconds for the cable box to be unplugged.
- Reconnect the power cord to the cable box. Alternatively, reconnect the power cord to the main power outlet.
There’s nothing quite like witnessing a work being finished firsthand. Take a look at this helpful video lesson that will walk you through this stage.
You should try auto-scanning for TV channels after completing a cable box reset. If the auto-scan yields no findings, you can assume that the cable box isn’t the source of the problem. You can now proceed to the other solutions in this post that will assist you in resolving the issue.
How can I know if my satellite dish is operational?
It’s possible that your satellite dish is in perfect functioning order. You can check this by unplugging the satellite receiver and plugging in a spare/new one, or by looking at the signal on other TVs in the house.
What is the procedure for resetting my satellite dish?
Unplug your DISH receiver’s power cord (which usually includes a red tag) from the electrical socket for 10 seconds before plugging it back in. If you have a Hopper and Joey system, unhook the Hopper’s power cord (the main, large receiver). It’s possible that the reset procedure will take up to 5 minutes to finish.
For dish, what channel should your TV be tuned to?
Tune to channel 60 using the TV’s manufacturer’s remote or the channel buttons on the TV itself. If you don’t see a DISH picture, try channel 73. If your prior television was normally tuned to a different station, try tuning to that one as well.
To complete the recovery procedure on your main Sky Q box:
- Turn off the Sky Q box at the mains.
- Switch the box back on at the mains while holding down the standby button on the front.
- Hold the standby button down until the front of the box displays alternating red and amber lights. A software upgrade will begin as a result of this action.
Repeat steps 13 if the lights do not appear after 30 seconds. If the problem persists, you’ll need to replace your Sky Q box.
- It may take up to 15 minutes for the update to complete, after which the box will switch off and return to a single red light.
- Your computer will reboot.
- To turn your Sky Q box back on after the on-screen messages have faded, press Home on your Sky Q remote. If your Sky Q remote is not turning on your Sky Q box, hit the standby button on your Sky Q box after pressing Home, and if your box turns on, there is a problem with your Sky Q remote. For more information, see our Sky Q remote troubleshooting guide.
If, instead of proceeding to the start up screens as intended, the screen stalls on Updating software Step 1 of 2 or Step 2 of 2:
- Turn off the power to the box, then turn it back on.
- Hold in the standby button on the box when you see the hello start up screen, and you should get Updating software step 2 of 2.
How do I regain access to my television’s channels?
Nearly 1,000 TV stations around the country, including those in Central and Southwest Virginia, are required by law to alter frequencies to accommodate cellular services.
This will occur on September 6th at 12 a.m.
What does this imply for you personally?
It simply indicates that you must rescan your TV channels. When you’re done, tune in to WFXR and WWCW on channels 21 and 27. You do not need to rescan if you watch TV through cable or satellite. Your service provider will take care of it.
Keep in mind that the procedure for doing a channel scan may differ. If your TV’s terminology differs from the alternatives presented, see your TV’s user manual for assistance.
It’s important to note that doing a channel scan is not the same as pushing the Channel UP/DOWN buttons on your remote. There may be channels accessible that you won’t be able to tune in to until you run a scan, even if you pick them directly.
After you’ve set up the antenna, do a channel scan to get the most programs. It’s a good practice to do a channel scan monthly, whenever a channel is lost, and whenever you change places to maintain your channel line-up up to date (after you move into a new home, for example).
When I plug in HDMI, my TV says there’s no signal.
- Make sure you’ve chosen the proper input. If you pick an input that isn’t connected to an active device, this message will show.
- Make sure the source device is powered up and switched on.
- If you’re using an HDMI cable to connect the source device:
- Make sure both the TV and the source device are powered on, then disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cord from one of the devices.
- Turn on the HDMI Input Enhanced setting if your TV supports HDMI Enhanced Format and the source supports 4K to receive high-quality 4K signals from the source.
- Replace the HDMI cable with a fresh or known-to-work one.
- Connect another source device to the same input if you have one to see if the problem is with the input or the original source device.
- Switch to that input if you have another source device connected to your TV.
- There may be a problem with the original input or source device if there is a signal.
- Reset the source device’s power:
- Remove the source device from the power strip or wall outlet.
- Wait a minute before plugging in the source device and turning it on.
