If you still wish to use it, you’ll need either a standalone VDSL modem or the RT-identical AC68U’s twin, the DSL-AC68U, which is nearly identical except for the fact that it has a built-in VDSL modem. However, you will not be able to utilize a standard home phone with it because it lacks an RJ11 port.
Instead of the WAN port found in the RT-AC68U, the DSL-AC68U has a VDSL port (labeled DSL) that may be plugged into the wall of your FTTN or FTTB NBN:
You may simply insert the Ethernet wire from your NBN-provided gear into the WAN port of the RT-AC68U if you have Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC), Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fixed Wireless, or Sky Muster Satellite. You should also be aware that if you had lofty intentions to mount your new RT-AC68U to the wall, you will have a difficult time doing so because there is no simple way to do so. If you want to sit it on its back because you think it’s too tall, you won’t be able to because it’ll be sitting on its own cables. Consider a wall mount like this if you truly want to affix it to the wall.
While the RT-reliability AC68U’s and longevity are generally excellent, a small number of users have complained that the router runs hot to the touch, which isn’t ideal for any piece of electronics’ durability. Someone even created an aftermarket cooling solution on Amazon, however it’s debatable whether it’s genuinely necessary given that countless customers have been using theirs without trouble since 2013.
