What is the procedure for connecting to HDHomeRun?
The first step is to properly connect the box. Everything you’ll need is included in the package; all you’ll need is an antenna connection. If you’re using an interior antenna, it’ll connect straight to the HDHomeRun; if you’re using a roof antenna, you’ll need to use a separate coax wire.
- Connect the coax line from your antenna to the HDHomeRun’s rear input.
- Connect the Ethernet wire to an output on your router and to your HDHomeRun.
- Connect the power cable and check that the lights turn on to ensure that everything is working properly.
That’s all there is to it when it comes to the box. The rest of the setup is done on your computer.
- Go to my.hdhomerun.com for more information.
- Your box should be detected automatically by the site.
- Installer for Windows (or Mac, if you want) may be found here.
- Select the digital antenna tab in the install wizard when it appears.
- To find accessible TV channels, click scan.
- The channel list will populate in a little while, as shown below.
If you already have a DVR, you can set it up after completing these steps. Simply press the finish button to begin viewing television.
You can now use any of the official or third-party apps that support the HDHomeRun to watch TV on your local network. You can get the official app if you’re using Windows 10 on a PC or Xbox One.
Is it necessary to subscribe to HDHomeRun?
For more than a decade, SiliconDust’s HDHomeRun networked tuners have been a godsend to cord cutters. You can stream live native-quality broadcast TV to other devices throughout the house by connecting one to an over-the-air antenna and plugging it into your router.
HDHomeRun has added the ability to record those broadcasts directly from its applications. All you need is a media server, such as a PC, NAS box, or Nvidia Shield TV, as well as a $35-per-year HDHomeRun DVR subscription. It’s the plug-and-play recording solution that SiliconDust has been seeking for a long time.
What channels are available with HDHomeRun?
With its new Premium TV offering, SiliconDust, the company behind the HDHomeRun line of networked TV tuners, has overcome one of live TV streaming services’ main difficulties.
HDHomeRun Premium TV provides 45 live cable channels for $35 a month, including ESPN, HGTV, FX, AMC, and all three major cable news networks. Local broadcast channels are not included in the subscription, but you may add them yourself by attaching an antenna to an HDHomeRun tuner, which is required to use the service.

Is there a DVR that doesn’t require you to pay a monthly fee?
Our selection for the best DVR with no monthly costs is the Amazon Fire TV Recast. This cord-cutting device works by connecting to an external HD antenna as well as an external streaming device.
- Live TV from over-the-air channels can be recorded.
- Recordings can be viewed alongside Netflix and Hulu (on one interface)
- There are no monthly subscription fees to pay.
- Recordings can be stored for up to 150 hours.
- At the same time, you can record up to four shows.
- With a suitable mobile device, you can even watch on the go.
- Allows you to watch recordings on all of your devices by connecting to the internet.
It’s worth noting that this device necessitates the use of an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Echo Show. Thankfully, Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and similar products are both inexpensive and convenient for cord cutters.
To get the most out of this device, you’ll need three things: an Amazon Fire TV Recast DVR, a decent antenna, and an Amazon Fire TV. You’ll be able to record live TV from OTA channels (such as NBC, CBS, FOX, and others) and watch the recordings on your Amazon Fire interface after you have these items. You can also watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and other streaming services on this tablet.
Is HDHomeRun still available for download?
Since its first announcement at CES in 2018, the HDHomeRun Prime 6 has been one of the most anticipated gadgets in the home theater PC industry. Despite having other devices to announce at CES in 2019, the main thing everyone wanted to know was when they’d be able to order the Prime 6. SiliconDust never provided a firm release date for the device, and despite having other devices to announce at CES in 2019, the main thing everyone wanted to know was when they’d be able to order the Prime 6. It became an even more pressing question at that presentation, as the firm also announced that the three-tuner version of the HDHomeRun Prime will be withdrawn. Our nearly three-year wait for an answer has finally come to an end, but it’s not the one we were hoping for. Instead, we get the response we expected. The sixth season of HDHomeRun Prime has been canceled.
When the HDHomeRun Prime was first announced, there were two device possibilities. The first had three tuners, while the second had six. The six-tuner model was essentially two of the three-tuner units enclosed in a box. Two CableCARDs and two RF connections were required. That model, predictably, did not last long, although the three-tuner version lasted until late 2018. Because CableCARDs can give devices access to six streams at once, the three-tuner limit has always looked arbitrary. CableCARDs were normally only a few dollars per month to lease, but why go through the hassle of linking two of them when one would suffice? SiliconDust was already a few years behind their main competitor when they unveiled the Prime 6. In 2013, Ceton released the InfiniTV 6, a six-tuner Ethernet-connected device.
While we believe there were a number of factors that influenced SiliconDust’s decision to abandon the HDHomeRun Prime 6, the primary one was the FCC’s recent ruling. The government said in September that cable operators would no longer be required to supply CableCARDs. People are cutting the cord, which has resulted in a dramatic reduction in CableCARD usage over the previous few years. Despite the numerous comments on our site and elsewhere on the internet, the HDHomeRun Prime 6’s market was dwindling.
The cancellation of HDHomeRun Prime 6 is disappointing. We’re not surprised, and we agree that it was past time to end the experiment.
Despite the terrible news, SiliconDust now has the HDHomeRun Prime (three-tuner model) in stock!
