Discovery Inc. has announced intentions to launch Discovery+ in the Canadian market later this year, bringing a new U.S. streaming service to Canada.
During the company’s 2021 Q2 investor call on Tuesday (Aug. 3), Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed the expansion plan, noting that the subscription-based streaming platform would be accessible in Canada, Brazil, and the Philippines in the second half of the year.
As part of a content collaboration contract, Discovery+ offers programs from Discovery-owned channels like HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, OWN, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet, as well as programming from BBC and A+E Networks channels like Lifetime and HISTORY.
A Discovery spokeswoman informed Playback Daily that there are presently no information on what will be available on Discovery+ in Canada.
Much of Discovery’s programming is shown on Bell Media and Corus Entertainment channels in Canada. Discovery, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Discovery Velocity, and Discovery Science are among Bell Media’s brands. “There will be no immediate changes to Discovery Channel in Canada,” a Bell Media spokeswoman told Playback Daily.
