Look over your credit reports. Obtaining your credit reports from the three major credit agencies, Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax, should be your first step in identifying what obligations you owe. Creditors typically report debt accounts to one or more credit bureaus, which then include the information in their credit reports.
In Singapore, how can I transfer utilities to a new owner?

What is the best way to transport electricity?
The city or county is normally in charge of water and garbage removal. If you rent, you won’t have to worry about registering these services because your property management company will take care of it. However, if you own your new house, you will most likely have the choice of calling to set up service or going to the town hall to set up these services. If you have the option to contact, have the service address, billing address, phone number, and the start or end date for the service ready.
There are a few documents you should prepare to have on hand if you need to travel to town hall, as well as throughout your move:
Identification proof
State-issued picture ID, valid driver’s license, passport, alien registration card
a copy of your new address’s proof of residency
Mortgage/proof of homeownership, lease/rental agreement
Use this list as a rough guideline, and be sure to double-check your city/unique county’s regulations.
In Ontario, how can I change my name on my utilities?
To begin, you must contact your current utility provider to cancel service at your previous address. Disconnecting service from any utility requires at least five days’ notice, so don’t wait until the last minute. It’s best to give yourself a week or two’s notice. You should be able to reach out to your utility by email or phone.
Your account number, which can be found on your energy and natural gas bills, is required. You’ll also need to call an electricity or natural gas retailer if you have a contract with them. Give your retail provider at least two weeks’ notice if possible. If they are unable to serve you at your new address, they will transfer your service or cancel your contract.
Is it possible to have joint electric bills?
When two parties, such as roommates or business partners, share responsibility for the account, or when a legal representative, such as a lawyer or carer, takes over the responsibility, people place two names on a utility bill. In addition to paying the bill, the second person becomes the point of contact in the event of an emergency and has the authority to make changes to the account, including terminating it. Putting two names on a utility account is not difficult once both parties agree to share responsibility. Typically, both parties must inform the utility company over the phone or in person.
Who is liable for non-payment of utility bills?
When there are numerous tenants living in the same house, bill conflicts are common. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the person whose name appears on the bill is ultimately responsible.
This means that if all tenants in a house share or HMO rental unit have their names on a utility bill, they are all equally responsible for debt repayment, even if only one tenant hasn’t paid.
When you move, what happens to your utilities?
When you move, you must notify your gas, electricity, and water providers that you will be leaving your current residence. Following that, you’ll receive a final bill based on the final meter readings (remember to give your suppliers your new address so they can send this out).
What is the cost of power in Singapore?
Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong advised consumers to save power earlier this month, warning of rising costs and prices.
“No economically managed organization would sell electricity below cost forever,” he said, noting that wholesale electricity rates have been lowered below the cost of producing electricity in the last five years due to overcapacity in generation.
Mr Gan’s statement comes after SP Group announced that its regulated rate for families would increase by 3.1% from this month through December.
It is now priced at its highest since the first quarter of last year, at 25.8 cents per kwh.
This amounts to a $2.66 rise in the average monthly electricity bill for a family of four living in a four-room Housing Board flat, bringing the total to $87.83. The goods and services tax is included in these figures.
The equation has shifted slightly as Singaporeans are required to undertake more work from home.
According to Yvonne Zhang, Deloitte South-east Asia’s risk advisory climate and sustainability leader, this suggests that domestic electricity usage has taken on the critical service function of public facilities.
“Every family bears a fraction of our society’s cost,” she continued, “and lowering power usage now faces realistic challenges that go beyond cost savings or doing good for the environment.”
The pandemic has resulted in a consensus that remote work is here to stay, even if it is part of a hybrid structure that includes trips to the office on occasion.
And, while home-based learning is seen as a last-resort strategy by the authorities in this country, it is nevertheless a possibility, particularly for older children.
Singapore’s most recent initiative was to make home recovery the default care option for positive Covid-19 cases.
What is the procedure for opening an electrical account in Singapore?
We must first register an SP Utilities Account for our new property in Singapore before we can move in. This must be completed in order for your home to have access to water, electricity, and natural gas.
Because each account is associated with a unique name and address, you must create a new account for each residence that you intend to occupy, even if you already have an SP utility account. It is not possible to transfer your utility account. As a result, you won’t be able to simply move it from your old home to your new one.
If you’re moving out of your present home and into a new one, for example, you’ll need to close your current utilities account and start a new one at your new home. You can alternatively open a new utilities account with SP first, and then close your previous utilities account when you no longer need it, depending on your living situation.
You must open an SP Utilities Account regardless of whether you use an Open Electricity Market (OEM) provider or purchase electricity from SP. This is due to the fact that SP Utilities continues to furnish and bill for water and gas.

You can register for an account online using a desktop/laptop computer or the SP Utilities App. For the purposes of this essay, we’ll walk you through the experience if you’re using a desktop or laptop.
Step 2: Provide home address details
It will immediately indicate whether your new home address is covered by City Gas when you provide the address for your new home. For example, it automatically informs me that City Gas is not available at my new location, which means I’ll have to find other ways to cook, such as utilizing an induction stove or obtaining gas cylinders from Union Gas.
Even if you have an electricity plan with an OEM provider at your current location, keep this in mind. You should still contact SP Utilities first to get your energy turned on.
Step 3: Provide personal details (via Singpass if possible)
You will be required to supply personal information. Choose Myinfo with Singpass to access information for convenience. That was the choice we made. Most of the personal information requested in Myinfo should already be filled in, making the process much easier.
Step 4: Choose an appointment date and time to open your SP Utilities account
To open your utilities account, you’ll need to pick a day and time. You may be required to attend the appointment at your location. Instead of receiving a printed statement, you can choose to receive a bill summary through email.
When I’m moving, how can I turn off the electricity?
When closing an account with your electricity or natural gas company, you should give at least five (5) business days’ notice, but we recommend giving roughly one month’s notice. You can either phone your utility to request that service be turned off and your account be closed, or you can submit the request online (if you already have an online account).
To close your account, you’ll need to supply the following information:
- Your account number for utility services
- The date on which you will be relocating
- Your final bill’s forwarding address
- For verification purposes, you may be requested for your social security number.
Final Meter Reading
Depending on your utility company, a representative may be dispatched to take a final meter reading in order to guarantee that your final bill is accurate. If you have a smart meter, though, this isn’t necessary.
Security Deposit
If you paid a security deposit for your electricity or gas service, it will be returned to you on your most recent payment (if it hasn’t already). Your security deposit will usually be applied to your final bill by most utilities. Any remaining security deposit will be sent to you at your forwarding address.
Service With an Alternate Supplier
If you get your electricity or natural gas from a different provider, you should let them know about your impending move about a month ahead of time. They should be able to move your account to your new address in most circumstances. If the provider does not provide service at your new residence, you should be allowed to cancel your plan without penalty or price. Check your plan’s terms and conditions for more information, since they may demand particular papers as proof of your relocation.
To end an account with a different supplier, call their customer care number or go to their website and supply them with the following information:
- Account number for your customers
- The date of your relocation
- Your e-mail forwarded address
