What is the value of 1000 Nectar points?
Although 1,000 nectar points are worth 5.00 in cash, Nectar frequently runs special deals where you may double your points at participating stores or get two movie tickets in exchange for your points.
Promotions are accessible in-store and online, so members can just swipe their card to earn more points on certain purchases.
Members of the Nectar program also get access to the Nectar online store, where they can check out what’s on offer and redeem their points for a variety of vouchers and experiences.
Are Sainsbury’s putting an end to Nectar points?
Sainsbury’s has notified consumers about a modification to its Nectar Card offer, and customers aren’t pleased.
Customers are furious, accusing the business of sending out a “misleading” email and taking to social media to vent their frustrations. Sainsbury’s, which has over 25 locations in the North East, including superstores in Durham, Team Valley, and Sunderland, sparked outrage when it unveiled a new Big Points Swap offer. This is how the deal works:
- Customers will be able to exchange their Nectar points for improved money off vouchers, which may be worth up to twice as much for select customers when they spend at Sainsbury’s.
- Customers must earn 2,000 points to be eligible, with a maximum redemption of 10,000 points.
- Customers will see varying voucher values depending on their current point value in the app.
However, some people have been irritated by the offer, believing that it has taken the place of the popular Double Points campaign that we see every year. Nectar, on the other hand, acknowledged that the deal would expire in 2021.
According to a Nectar spokeswoman at the time, “Over the last few years, fewer people have used Double Up, therefore it has only benefited a small percentage of our customers. We understand that some customers will be unhappy to see it disappear, but we hope that our new My Nectar Prices offer will allow more customers to take benefit of it. Customers may take advantage of lower costs and personalized offers all year long as a result of this.”
“Don’t know if it’s been posted but Sainsbury’s are doing the huge points swap instead of doubling up this year,” consumer Becka Harris remarked on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group.
Do you accept Nectar cards at BP?
When it comes to fuel, one of the most common questions that many employees have is what perks are offered. Customers at BP filling stations could previously earn points through the Nectar program. However, because the BP-Nectar relationship terminated in 2019, you will no longer be able to earn Nectar points at these locations.
Instead, BP established BPme, its own reward card program. This app was formerly only available as a simple payment app that allowed drivers to pay for gas using their smartphones, but it now includes a variety of prizes and other offers when you use the brand’s gas stations.
The good news is that the system is open to all drivers, including those who use fuel cards to purchase gasoline and diesel. You can start earning points as soon as you have a BP One or BP Plus card. However, it is not available to BP Bunker cardholders.
Earn points as you spend
For every 1 spend at Sainsbury’s, you’ll earn one point. This equates to 0.5 percent of 500 points, which is worth 2.50. (more on the value of loyalty card points in my How much are loyalty points worth article).
To obtain your points, swipe at the register, and keep an eye on the app or your digital account for special deals that will increase the number of points you earn.
You may also receive vouchers for extra points at the register, which may include double or treble points on your next purchase. If you can be bothered to buy a single, inexpensive item at the beginning of your shopping trip, you should have any vouchers printed out and ready to use on the rest of your trip.
Get bonus points via weekly offers
In 2019, Nectar was reintroduced. The key idea behind “new” Nectar is that instead of receiving generic point offers, you’ll receive ones that are matched to your buying patterns. Every Friday, these are updated.
When I checked in, I was presented with six different Sainsbury’s produce offers. Five of them were product-specific, such as a bonus of 20 points if I buy organic red peppers or a bonus of 10 points if I buy any fresh salad. If I spent 40 in store, I received an additional 200 points. A few days later, I received six more offers, this time for milk, soup, and bread.
What can I do to get extra Nectar points?
The most prevalent method of earning Nectar points. When you’re in the store, keep an eye out for additional offers and don’t throw away the pieces of paper that come with the receipt. These provide either a monetary discount or additional Nectar points. You would believe it’ll only be for stuff you’re not interested in, but I’ve found it to be for items I’ve already purchased.
Shop through the Nectar website
The Nectar website functions in the same way that cashback sites do. If you’ve never used them before, they’re incredibly simple to use. If you wanted to buy something from Argos, for example, go to the Nectar website and click on the Argos link. You’ll earn Nectar points if you make your purchase as normal. You’ll get an extra point for every 1 you spend at the time of writing. There are several places to choose from, so make sure to check Nectar before making a buy.
However, if you’d rather have cash than Nectar points, check out my evaluation of the best cashback sites.
Triple point offers
Keep your eyes peeled for emails. When Nectar has a triple point promotion, you’ll get even more points when you spend at certain stores. The participating stores tend to shift from time to time.
The Nectar Browser Extension
This is a small toolbar extension for your browser that sits at the top. It’s useful because it reminds you which stores you can earn points at while you’re out shopping. Not only that, but when you search the web, you can get bonus points. You get 1 Nectar point for every two searches you complete, up to a maximum of 200 points per month. That works up to 12 each year (or 24 if you use them for two events).
Nectar Connect
This is a method of directly connecting your bank account to Nectar. You won’t have to swipe your Nectar card when you shop this way. Plus, when you shop at particular businesses, you’ll get special deals for added points.
Check the Nectar site and app regularly
On the Nectar website, you’ll frequently find a variety of special offers. These can be used to either convert your existing Nectar points for bonus savings or to earn additional points when you purchase. When you shop at a certain store, many of these offers feature double points. Simply select ‘Load to card,’ and your points will be instantly applied when you make a purchase.
Simple extras, such as completing short surveys, can occasionally help you earn more points. It took less than a minute to complete the survey below.
