What kind of gas is available at Circle K?
Circle K currently meets its renewable energy commitment through the use of paraffinic diesel (HVO) in its diesel fuels and electric car charging stations at Circle K service stations.
“According to both the Tax and Customs Board’s data and Circle K’s experience, almost to half of our customers who use gasoline use gasoline 98, which does not include ethanol,” the firm said in a statement.

In 2018, Circle K rebranded numerous Top Tier fuels (Shell, Phillips 66, Exxon, and others) to the Circle K brand in Illinois and Missouri. Circle K used to offer Top Tier fuel when it was co-franchised with major Top Tier fuel brands like Shell or Phillips 66, but it no longer does so at any Circle K-only convenience store or gas station. The vast majority of Circle K’s co-franchised brands that were Top Tier fuels have been discontinued. In 2019, Circle K was officially removed from the list of Top Tier approved retail brands. As of July 2021, Circle K fuel is the same type of gasoline sold by Walmart, Sam’s Club, Kroger, and Murphy USA, to mention a few large retailers, and is not a Top Tier fuel.
Circle K announced the purchase of ten convenience and grocery outlets in Ireland from the Griffin Group in September 2021. All of the stores being purchased are in Dublin, and are in high-traffic districts like O’Connell Street, College Green, Grafton Street, and Sandyford.
The Wall Street Journal reported in May 2022 that Alimentation Couche-Tard, the parent company of Circle K, is in talks to buy EG Group. If the acquisition goes through, Circle K will gain a strong presence in key U.S. markets (particularly Florida, New England, and Ohio), as well as locations in every state except Utah. Circle K would have access to Australia, Western Europe, and EG Group’s home market of the United Kingdom on a global scale.
