Duct tape or non-conductive electrical tape can be used, or each battery can be placed in a clear plastic bag. Please do not remove the chemical label from the batteries. Battery terminals must be safeguarded by federal laws to prevent them from coming into touch with other terminals, batteries, or metal items. A short circuit and, in rare situations, a fire can result as a result of this. The prevention of these dangers is a key priority.
What happens if you cover a battery with tape?
A pre-paid return mailing label is already affixed to your ready-to-ship collecting pack. The first step is to double-check that the box contains the correct type of batteries and that they have been taped or bagged. Each box includes a set of instructions that explain which batteries require terminal protection. Then tape the box up as shown.
- US: Include your entire box in your regular UPS or FedEx delivery.
- Leave the box at your Purolater pick-up location in Canada.
You can collect batteries in any cardboard or plastic box as long as it is properly labeled, maintained, and ventilated according to EPA requirements, and sent in accordance with US DOT regulations. The Call2Recycle box, on the other hand, is required for transporting batteries because it complies with US DOT and Transport Canada transportation rules. More significantly, the Call2Recycle box contains the precise shipping address and tracking information we need to send a replacement kit when your inventory runs short, as well as your site-specific certificate of recycling.
After a box arrives at our recycling center, most organizations will automatically get a fresh collection kit. Contact Customer Service if you didn’t set up this service or wish to increase the number of boxes you receive from us. You can also submit a collection kit re-order form if you’re running low on boxes or bags. Within 2-5 business days of placing your order, you should get new supplies.
I sent a recycle box, but have yet to receive my replacement? What happened to it?
All Call2Recycle collection boxes are tracked by us. The time it takes for us to receive your shipment is normally a few days. We will send you a replacement Collection Kit as soon as we receive the box. Please be advised that there will be a small period of time between when we receive your shipment and when your new boxes are delivered. As a result, you can rest assured that boxes are on their way!
Canada: Certain battery connections must be bagged or taped prior to shipment, according to Transport Canada. Lithium primary, Lithium Ion (Li-ion), and small seated lead acid (SSLA/Pb) are all examples of this. Other varieties may not require taping or bagging. If you run out of bags, clear plastic bags such as newspaper or produce bags can be used. To protect the battery terminals, you can apply duct or non-conductive electrical tape. As much as possible, avoid mentioning the battery’s brand name or chemistry.
What type of tape should I use to secure the battery terminals? What happens if your battery terminals aren’t taped?
If you run out of bags, you can use duct tape or non-conductive electrical tape. Please avoid concealing the inscriptions on the recycled materials. For one simple reason, federal regulations require you to safeguard battery connections before placing them in a recycling box. By taping or bagging each battery, you may avoid the terminals coming into contact with other terminals, batteries, or metal items, which can result in a short circuit and, in some situations, a fire. The prevention of these dangers is a key priority.
Call2Recycle’s recycling finder is updated on a regular basis to guarantee that active locations are included. To ensure that only active locations are featured, the site will only display locations that have sent a box or pallet during the last six months. This ensures that discarded batteries and telephones are properly recycled and in a timely manner.
It’s simple to add a new collection site. Simply get in touch with Customer Service. Collection kits can be delivered directly to the new location or to a distribution center. For high-volume sites, we also provide a bulk delivery option.
Is it possible to have the Collection Kits sent to one of our locations directly, or should they be transported to the central contact?
This fluctuates according to the number of locations you have. It’s possible that some sites will borrow boxes from one another. Because each package has tracking information, new kits may be sent to the wrong area if this happens. We like to set up and distribute kits from a central location so that replacements may be sent to the correct spot. Whatever the case, give us a call and let us know what you’re looking for. We want to make sure that your program is set up correctly so that it can serve you efficiently and effectively.
We’d appreciate it if you could let us know if you’re moving or if you’ve already moved so that we can send replacement kits to the correct address. We will squander resources and raise our carbon footprint if we ship boxes to the incorrect address. Above all, you’ve been left without the boxes you require!
Within Call2Recycle, there is a department called Customer Service. Our teams work alongside the rest of the Call2Recycle team at our corporate offices in Atlanta and Montreal. We have access to the information we need to fix your issue promptly because we are all in the same offices.
Any organization can apply to be a collecting location as long as enough batteries are generated to offset the shipping box footprint. How many batteries do you believe you’ll recycle in the next six months is one of the questions we’ll ask. If the weight is less than 50 lbs. (22.7 kg), we may urge you to use a nearby drop-off location instead. Eighty-eight percent of consumers in North America reside within 10 miles (15 kilometers) of a drop-off location. Using those sites instead not only speeds up the battery recycling process, but it also allows us to bundle shipments and reduce our carbon footprint.
My Call2Recycle boxes are picked up by a courier, which I appreciate. Why aren’t they able to provide me with replacement kits?
Our collection boxes are picked up by our couriers and transported for recycling. Because they are not affiliated with Call2Recycle, they do not stock or distribute boxes. If you have any questions about the arrival of your kits, please contact Customer Service.
Call2Recycle recently debuted a box-in-a-box program in Canada, and it will be available in most US areas starting in January to maximize space used for box delivery and speed up the shipping process (except major retailers). We are shipping two boxes at once, so look inside any boxes you receive for the second one.
If that isn’t the problem, you could verify your replenishment point, which we set up when your location joined our program. When you reach that point, the predetermined quantity of boxes is dispatched. By contacting Customer Service, you can change your replenishment point at any time.

Is it okay to use electrical tape on my car?
Fortunately, electrical tape will not remove the paint on cars, but it may leave a sticky residue. It’s vital to keep track of how long the tape has been on the vehicle because it could affect the paint. The adhesive on the tape may damage the paint if you take it off too hastily.
Is it permissible to use electrical tape on battery cables?
We put locking nuts and heat shrink on our battery connections to keep them from coming loose.
These are examined several times throughout the season (at the start of the season and before each competition) to ensure that they haven’t fallen loose.
We take away the heat shrink and thoroughly replace the connection (with fresh heat shrink, of course!) if any do (we’ve only had a couple in the last 6 years).
Heat shrink is slightly safer than electrical tape in our opinion, as it is more difficult to remove mistakenly.
However, there’s no harm in using electrical tape as long as you make sure everything is covered and the tape doesn’t start pulling up!
What’s the best way to keep the terminals on my automobile battery sealed?
To assist prevent corrosion, apply battery-terminal lube to the terminals. It may be found in any car parts store and is usually packaged in a ketchup-like packet.
AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Metal Protector is another excellent option. It protects terminals against corrosion by covering them with a protective coating. You may also use it as a rust-prevention undercoating for your vehicle.
Is it necessary to tape batteries?
I’ve studied the Kane County Recycling battery requirements and made a note of the Aurora drop-off locations. The obligation to tape the top of each battery, on the other hand, concerns me.
I have roughly 100 batteries to recycle right now. I’m not sure what sort of tape to use. Is it necessary to tape the top of each battery separately? Isn’t the tape going to come off if I put a lot of batteries in the same bag? Consider using masking tape or blue painters tape to wrap a group of batteries.
A: You don’t have to tape all batteries.
The goal of taping batteries is to prevent them from overheating by blocking the contact points.
- 9-volt and 12-volt batteries are available. Tape the tops of the contacts together. Of course, you must begin and stop the tape on the sides in order for it to stick. Take a look at the featured image, which we’ll also share below.
- Batteries in the shape of a coin, often known as button cells.
- Tape both sides together. To sandwich it, simply fold a piece of tape around it.
- Lithium ion batteries with a small seat lead acid battery
- Cover the contact points of any lithium ion, tiny sealed lead acid, and bundled batteries with tape.
What causes batteries to overheat and catch fire?
When a battery cell reaches thermal runaway, it generates enough heat to drive surrounding battery cells to reach thermal runaway as well. This results in a fire that flares up repeatedly as each battery cell ruptures and releases its contents. As a result, flammable electrolyte and, in the case of disposable lithium batteries, molten burning lithium are released from the battery. The fact that these fires can’t be treated like “regular fires” poses a significant problem, necessitating specialized training, planning, storage, and extinguishment.
Masking tape
Masking tape is used for short-term projects, usually for no more than five days. This comprises labeling, packaging, masking, and temporary holding as an automobile painting tape (usually in conjunction with masking paper or masking film).
It’s ideal for painting jobs and smaller projects because of its clean edges, one-piece removal, and conformability.
*When it comes to masking tape for car painting, 3M Scotch is a common choice.
Tape with two sides
There are several various varieties of automobile double-sided tape available, each with its own distinct appearance. Foam is sometimes utilized, and broad sheets are sometimes employed. However, automotive double-sided tape is utilized for the majority of automotive applications, including as car interiors.
It’s ideal for making alterations to a dashboard or other interior parts because it can hide behind components.
Because it can endure heat, cold, UV radiation, chemicals, and humidity, it may also be used for minor body parts such trims, moldings, bumper trims, and mirrors.
Fine line tape
Fine line tape is a type of vehicle striping tape that is used to make a thin line for two-tone separation or lettering.
It’s noted for being moisture and solvent resistant, as well as having a high level of adhesion, making it suitable for long-term use. There is, however, a specific backing that allows it to be easily removed. The tape’s specific backing/adhesive also allows it to be applied over freshly painted acrylic and enamel, as well as any other type of automotive paint, without causing adhesive transfer or other damage.
Slip resistant
While slip-resistant tape isn’t used on cars, it’s useful to have around the shop, where oil and paint are common.
It’s a thin, gritted tape that’s put to slick floors to prevent slipping and falling incidents in the workplace.
Conspicuity
Conspicuity tape is a white, highly reflective material that is commonly used on trucks, safety and emergency vehicles, trailers, and other large vehicles that require to improve visibility and detection from afar.
It’s water, dirt, and most weather conditions resistant, and it’s rated as diamond grade with high-quality automotive adhesive.
Abrasive blasting tapes
Sandblasting tapes and other abrasive activities, such as car refinishing, are the most common uses for abrasive blasting tapes. The fact that this tape is often constructed of rubber or elastomer distinguishes it and makes it ideal for abrasive operations.
This makes it more resistant to wear and keeps it in place for the duration of the project.
Plating tape
In your auto shop, plating tape is one of the most resilient and long-lasting tapes you can employ. It’s utilized to safeguard anything delicate that might be exposed to chemicals or extreme heat throughout the course of a project.
What kind of batteries should you tape?
The majority of the batteries we use every day do not require any particular preparation before recycling, however we do recommend that some types of batteries be recycled with caution to avoid short-circuiting.
Rechargeable batteries are available in a variety of sizes, including AA, AAA, C, D, and 9 volt, and can be found in a variety of household products. Cellphones, laptops, and tools all use them. Examine rechargeable batteries for any signs of damage. During storage and prior to recycling, please tape or bag any exposed terminals or wires.
Prior to recycling, special care must be taken to ensure that all primary lithium “button” cell batteries have their positive terminals taped. Simply wrap a single strip of tape around the top and bottom of the button cell, covering both terminal ends, to tape both the positive and negative terminals.
Button cell batteries are found in a variety of products, including musical greeting cards, timepieces, and hearing aids.
Aside from the several button cell sizes, the most popular AAA, AA, C, D, and 9 Volt kinds are available. Before recycling, the positive terminals of all of these batteries must be taped.
Emergency lighting systems, UPS power units, and remote control automobiles and vehicles all employ sealed lead acid batteries. The size of these batteries varies depending on the use, and before recycling, the positive terminals must be taped.
Batteries with a voltage of 6 volts are utilized in larger flashlights and lanterns. Although the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act does not apply to it, we recommend that protective caps or masking tape be placed over its terminals before recycling.
9 Volt batteries are commonly used in smoke detectors and alarm clocks. To secure both the positive and negative terminals, just lay a piece of masking tape over the terminal ends.
Is Scotch tape electrically conductive?
3M Scotch 13 Tape is a highly conformable 0.762mm thick high voltage jointing and self amalgamating tape made of EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber).
Scotch 13 Tape can be used as a low-voltage insulator as well as a 69kV insulator for cable joints.
The tape is non-vulcanizing, shelf-stable, and has outstanding electrical qualities as well as consistent conductivity over a wide temperature range.
